Project
These attractive luxury single family homes were designed as a component of the University Village East master plan—on what was once a surface parking lot for a freight company—to address the continued demand for luxury single family housing in close proximity to Chicago’s Loop as well as the University of Illinois at Chicago’s campus.
With four and five bedrooms, the 4,500 square foot homes were designed with brick facades that emulate Chicago vernacular in period style with modern features. Five front elevation schemes were combined with five color palette choices, for a total of twenty-five different appearance packages. The developer instituted controls that prevented any one elevation or color from being built adjacent to one another, creating a cohesive, attractive streetscape of distinctive homes.
The homes are arranged on either side of a new boulevard with wide sidewalks and landscaped parkways. Homeowners were given the option of either a two- or three-car detached garage, which is situated on a new alley system for the block, providing an alternate path for most vehicular traffic, away from the main thoroughfare through the community.
