Drinking establishments have long been considered to be ground-floor businesses. Through the combined efforts of the Irish Pub Company and FitzGerald Associates Architects, a unique design with strong second-floor attraction and an appealing access path was created. Fado has proven to be an exception to the rule.
Creating the space for the Irish Pub Company’s premier United States location was a challenge, because the company wished to display five different pub styles in one facility that had to fit within a small 19th-century building. Fitting this ambitious program on two floors required conceiving innovative solutions to exiting and fire-safety concerns and negotiating their acceptance with city agencies.
