111 South Morgan Street

Situated on a prime urban site in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, the site is long and narrow, with a north-south orientation that affords excellent views of downtown. The building borrows from the historic aesthetic of the neighborhood’s warehouse buildings in its use of brick and cast stone detailing.

The form, however, is more dynamic; cantilevered and recessed balconies and open roof decks arranged along the Morgan street elevation add interest and relief to the long street wall. The aluminum spandrel panels between windows add a cool, smooth contrast to the heavy masonry building. The structural system is an exposed cast-in-place flat slab and column type.
