Charlie Saville has joined FitzGerald as a Principal, and will also act as the firm’s Director of Sustainability. Charlie is among the most accomplished experts in the sustainability of the built environment, with over two decades of experience supporting design and development teams to bring high-performance buildings to life.
For years, Charlie has been a key member of FitzGerald’s consultant teams, and his joining the firm is an exciting evolution of that relationship. FitzGerald is now poised to offer our clients an unparalleled level of integrated sustainability services as they navigate the regulatory requirements and financial viability of development, select the best possible building certification program(s), and make the practical decisions necessary to design the building for current and future performance. Through this growth, FitzGerald can also offer sustainability strategic planning, building certification services, energy performance modeling, and building system commissioning, nationwide.
“Since the built environment was identified as the single largest contributor to climate change, we have been challenged to improve the energy conservation of buildings. Adding Charlie to our team ensures that every project starts with a discussion around how design can enhance the building’s performance and fit into the Owner’s project vision. We are excited by this challenge and providing integrated design solutions to our clients”, said Mike DeRouin, FitzGerald’s president. “Charlie brings known leadership and expertise to our firm and every project.”
Charlie is widely regarded as a leader in our industry, bringing together a lifelong curiosity and aptitude for mastering complex systems and communicating the key ideas in ways that benefit a wide range of stakeholders, each with their own needs and objectives. Equally comfortable speaking to government officials, institutional executives, technical experts, and talented designers, Charlie is always looking for the next opportunity to advance building performance through clear communication and aspirational growth.
He has provided sustainability and green building certification for more than two decades, successfully certifying more than 300 projects in LEED, GBI Green Globes, Fitwel, WELL, Living Building Challenge, or EnergyStar. Some notable achievements include his advocacy for the Green Globes program and the first Green Globes-certified buildings in Chicago; the first FITWEL-certified multifamily project in the Midwest; the first “Petal” certified Commercial Interior office project in the United States, participation on teams that have achieved the highest levels of certification including Three Globes and LEED Platinum, and the first-ever IWBI WELL & GBI Green Globes dual-certification (Building and Health/Wellness) project in the United States.
Charlie is a LEED Accredited Professional, a Green Globes Accredited Professional Fellow, and a FITWEL Program Ambassador. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
