James Broughton, AIA and Steve McFadden named Design Principals
FitzGerald Associates Architects is pleased to announce that James Broughton, AIA, and Steve McFadden have been named to the position of Design Principal. Both James and Steve previously held the position of Associate Principal.
As Design Principals, James and Steve will be responsible for setting the design concept and direction for all large-scale projects and smaller-scale projects of strategic importance, as well as monitoring the design of all small-scale commissions. They join the firm’s other Principals in their efforts to maintain and enhance existing client and industry relationships and will collaborate as a group to guide the firm’s marketing and BD efforts.
These two architects filling the firm’s top design positions is the furtherance of a firm-wide effort to develop the company’s reputation as a design force in Chicago architecture-built atop a successful track record of builder-friendly, technically-superior architecture for a variety of client types.
“We’ve been working hard to put design out front, and recognizing two talented Design Principals is the next step,” said firm president Mike De Rouin. “For years, Steve and James have guided our work with fantastic design. As Design Principals, they will spearhead our effort to cultivate and nurture good design at every level of our company.”
James Broughton, AIA joined FitzGerald Associates Architects in 2003 and has over 30 years of experience in a variety of project types including hotels, luxury residential, and corporate offices. James leads the architectural planning and design on many of the firm’s adaptive reuse, renovation, hospitality, and new-construction residential and mixed-use projects from conceptual design through contract documents and construction, ensuring continuity of design vision, planning and quality. His award-winning work reflects extensive international experience from overseas projects, personal and educational travel, and his active participation in the AIA Committee on Design. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from Iowa State University in 1983 and has been a Licensed Architect in the State of Illinois since 1986.
Steven D. McFadden joined FitzGerald Associates Architects in 2005 and has acted as senior designer and project manager on several of FitzGerald’s most significant mixed-use developments that bring together a variety of building uses and community amenities. His projects have been recognized for both their design and construction excellence, and his project teams consistently deliver excellent solutions on time and on budget. He earned his B.A. in Architecture from the Massachusetts College of Art and Master of Architecture from the University of California at Los Angeles. Prior to working at FitzGerald, Steve built experience working at well-established firms in Los Angeles and Boston in a wide variety of project types. Steve is a licensed architect in New York State.
