FitzGerald Architect Consults to Technology & Education Division of Aurora-Area School District

Chiao-Ying (Tin Tin) Chang, LEED Green Associate, 2014 Revit Architecture Certified Professional, an Architect on FitzGerald’s staff, was recently invited by the Technology and Education Division of the Indian Prairie School District 204 Board to share her knowledge of drafting and BIM technology along with her industry experience to help the board shape future initiatives for preparing their students for careers in tech-focused fields. The School District does a great deal to encourage and enable its students to experience technology, learn to operate the latest software, and even demonstrate their skills in regional and national competitions.

“When these students graduate High School, they’re able to draft in Revit and use some of the same software we use every day,” Tin Tin reports. “Students might leave high school and enter college—or the workforce—already proficient in the tools that support electrical engineers, or industrial designers, or architects.”

Tin Tin conveyed to the Board how teams at FitzGerald utilize software like Revit and 3D Max with technology such as 3D laser scanners to create smart BIM models and use digital solutions to collaborate both inside the firm and with clients, contractors, and consultants. She encouraged the Board to continue to guide their students toward a holistic understanding and approach, pairing technical drafting and software operation skills with advanced understandings of how a building is designed and assembled to generate a more intelligent final product.
