FitzGerald Donates 1.2 Tons of Sample Building Materials to Area Artists, Educators

At the end of 2013, FitzGerald was offered the opportunity to join design firms across the city in donating to the Chicago Center for Green Technology and ZeroLandfill Chicago any building samples–from bricks and stone to flooring materials and fixtures–that would have otherwise been destined for the landfill once their usefulness had expired.
The firm came together to clear shelves and storage areas of outdated samples, and when the dust cleared, the firm was able to contribute 2,451 pounds of material that was made available for free at the CCGT for artists, group leaders, crafters, and educators to upcycle into works of art and projects for students across the city. Altogether, the group collected 26,405.5 pounds of materials from Chicago area firms this year, and since September 2006, ZeroLandfill has collected over 1,000,000 pounds of expired samples across the nation.
