Groundbreaking Ceremonies at Midtown Square, Arkadia

This summer’s trend of project groundbreakings for FitzGerald-designed projects has continued in August, including a ceremony for Midtown Square, a 138-unit mixed-use transit-oriented development in Glenview (below right), and another for the Arkadia mixed-use tower in Chicago’s Greektown neighborhood (above right).
On Thursday, August 22nd, representatives from developer Trammell Crow (through its wholly owned subsidiary High Street Residential), the Village of Glenview, McShane Construction Company, and FitzGerald Associates Architects were on hand to officially break ground on the Midtown Square mixed-use transit-oriented development located in downtown Glenview. The new 215,000 square foot community will include 138 Class A luxury residences and approximately 9,000 square feet of retail space including a drive-thru, and is located on approximately 2.7 acres in Downtown Glenview, directly east of the Glenview station along Glenview Road, a stop for both Metra commuter rail and Amtrak. The development will offer one- and two-bedroom units that feature balconies or patios, granite counter tops, nine-foot ceilings and large cabinets. Community amenities will include a sun deck, club room, dog wash station, business center, bicycle storage, concierge station, access control entryways, heated parking, and a fitness center. The project is scheduled to be complete in Fall of 2014.
On Wednesday, August 14th, White Oak Realty Partners, 27th Ward Alderman Walter Burnett, Jr, Power Construction, FitzGerald Associates Architects, and representatives of the 27th Ward community gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony to formally celebrate the start of construction on the Arkadia mixed-use tower.
Visible from Chicago’s bustling I-90/94 corridor, Arkadia’s façade will be a gateway marker welcoming visitors to Chicago’s Greektown neighborhood. Contemporary design elements contribute to a modern but contextual building for the neighborhood, which will include 350 rental apartments in studio, one-, and two-bedroom formats and 20,500 SF of street-level retail space. The building will provide residents with several amenities including a rooftop pool, garden and green roof, dog walk, and community party rooms with fabulous views of the loop. The building is designed to seek LEED Certification and includes a green roof, energy-efficient window-wall system designed to minimize solar heat gain, high-efficiency HVAC and low-environmental-impact materials and finishes.
