Fernando Araujo, AIA, CSI, LEED AP, NCARB has been named to Associate Principal. He previously held the title of Senior Architect. Fernando has led FitzGerald teams on the development at 912 West Washington and a two-tower, 368-unit apartment complex in Chicago’s northern suburbs, and contributes a diverse portfolio with management and technical leadership. As an Associate Principal, he will take on a larger management role within the firm, and a greater focus on business development and client relationships.
Prior to joining FitzGerald, he was Technical Director at HOK Chicago, Technical Leader and Senior Project Manager at OWP/P, and Senior Architect at Lohan Associates. With these firms he worked on many significant projects in Chicago including the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois Corporate Headquarters, The New Prentice Women’s Hospital at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and the University of Chicago William Eckhardt Research Center.
He earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI). He is National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) Certified, a LEED Accredited Professional, and a past member of the CSI Chicago Chapter Board of Directors.
Kay Wulf, ASID, IIDA (2nd row, right) is joining FitzGerald as an Associate Principal. Kay is an award-winning interior designer and experienced project leader who brings extensive experience in corporate offices, building lobbies, public spaces, international product showrooms, convention centers, retail shopping malls, and luxury residences.
Her portfolio contains an impressive range of work, from commercial office spaces for Fortune 100 corporations such as McKesson and work at Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center to international exposure on mixed-use projects with the lobbies of the Dubai Towers and the retail shopping Mall at Mohali, India. She has performed feasibility studies for the University of Illinois and ConocoPhillips, and designed interior spaces for companies like Herman Miller, U S Equities, Kimball International, and Draftfcb. She has worked on luxury residential projects in some of Chicagoland’s most prestigious suburbs, neighborhoods and addresses, including The Malibu on Sheridan Road, a private residence in Winnetka, a vintage townhouse on LaSalle Street, and a condominium in the John Hancock Center.
Her work has garnered several awards and frequent press recognition, and she is a frequent contributor to regional and national conferences, panels, and publications. She has acted as juror on award committees, and sits on the Design Advisory Council of her Alma Mater, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where she earned her B.S. in Interior Design and A.A.S. in Architectural Technology. She is a Registered Interior Designer in the State of Illinois, and she is certified by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification. She is a Past-President of both the International Interior Design Association and Chicago Women in Architecture.
Jon Hiatt, AIA, LEED Green Associate (1st row, right) has joined the firm as a Project Architect. Jon has extensive experience delivering BIM models for some of the most complex buildings in the world, including The Kingdom Tower in Jedah, Saudia Arabia and the Masdar Headquarters in Abu Dhabi. He has worked for firms including Thornton Tomassetti, Adrian Smith Gordon Gill Architecture, and Harley Ellis Devereaux. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Kent State University, he is a Registered Architect in the State of Illinois, a LEED Green Associate, and a Registered Energy Professional with the City of Chicago.
John Richey, LEED AP (2nd row, left), joins the firm as a Project Architect and BIM Manager. He will manage the firm’s BIM standards and practices, as well as contributing to project teams as an experienced project leader. He has overseen the implementation of these technologies on complex projects for firms including Waechter Architects, DLK Civic Design, and Kristine Fallon Associates. He is a LEED Accredited Professional, and received degrees from the College of Wooster, University of Michigan, and University of Illinois.
Bradley Schlosser, AIA, LEED AP (1st row, left), joins FitzGerald as a Project Architect. He brings experience in hotel and educational architecture with MRA Architects, as well as architectural project management for Airoom Architects, Inc. He earned his B.A. in Architecture from Miami University, and he is a LEED Accredited Professional. He is a Licensed Architect in the States of Illinois and Wisconsin.
Charles Courtney (2nd row, center )joins FitzGerald as an Architect. Working for firms such as HOK, FGM architects, and Hirsch Associates, he has had experience across the Medical, Institutional, Educational, and Retail market segments working on such projects as The Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center expansion, Wheaton College’s new Science Center, and the new Lincoln Park Nordstrom Rack. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Judson University.
FitzGerald’s capabilities continue to expand with the award of two new certifications: Project Architect Edmundo Gonzalez has received his Architectural License from the State of Illinois, and Principal Mike Cody, AIA has become a Self-Certified Architect with the City of Chicago.
With his certification, Ed becomes the firm’s 12th Licensed Architect. Mike’s status under the Chicago Department of Buildings’ Self-Certification Program allows the firm to self-certify certain permit and construction drawings and simplify the often painfully drawn-out permitting process for some projects.
