The City Lit Bookstore at 2523 North Kedzie Boulevard in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood is now open, marking the successful culmination of a 21-month site selection, design, and construction process.
FitzGerald was commissioned to design a 2,300 square foot space for a new independent bookstore in a originally constructed as the terminal of the Logan Square Branch of the Metropolitan West Side Elevated Railroad, the precursor to the CTA’s Blue Line. The store’s owner asked us to assist in evaluating a number of sites before deciding on the Kedzie location. The owner wanted the store to be warm, inviting and reflective of the Logan Square neighborhood; the result is composed of vivid colors, traditional furniture and contemporary finishes and lighting.
