Space Planning & Interior Design

FitzGerald Associates’ staff has decades of experience planning and designing residential and commercial interiors. We know that a successful building interior integrates architecture, structure and mechanical systems with the users’ programmatic requirements. Like our architecture, we don’t bring a singular style to every project but, rather, respond to context, client and user. We pride ourselves on always thinking about the most appropriate, attractive and cost efficient design and materials for the project. Our services may include:

  • Interview the client and users for space (size and adjacency), furniture and equipment needs
  • Inventory existing equipment and furniture
  • Develop a program based on interviews and inventory
  • Prepare an initial ‘block’ diagram featuring sizes and relationships
  • Meet with the client to present and review block diagram
  • Refine the diagram based on input and prepare schematic plan(s) based on the diagram and client feedback
  • Refine schematic plans based on client feedback
  • Prepare drawsings and specifications for permit review and construction
  • Acquire necessary building permits and assist in obtaining and evaluating bids from General Contractors
  • Review contractor submittals, attend field meetings, respond to requests for information, review the contractor’s applications for payment and, finally, prepare a punch list (itemization of incomplete and/or deficient work).

From simple finish selections to entire renovations that require complex programming, we create unique interior designs for a wide variety of project types. Furniture, lighting, power, data, mechanical systems and finishes must be tightly coordinated. We also provide programming services that detail users’ spatial requirements, furniture and equipment needs.
