This project began with the client’s desire to remodel an existing 1970 Holiday Inn Hotel concurrent with the goal of repositioning the property to a higher-market Crowne Plaza Hotel. The existing structure consisted of the 186-room hotel with meeting and banquet room facilities, a restaurant and lounge, and an indoor swimming pool and a fitness center surrounded by surface parking.

The primary focus of the design was to develop a consistent character for the hotel from the exterior to the interior and to de-emphasize expansive parking areas around the building.  Although the guest room areas could not be altered other than the interior finishes, the public areas were significantly redesigned.  A new grand entry foyer with seating and fireplace was created to welcome guests to both the hotel and meeting room facilities.  New meeting rooms were created, and the restaurant & lounge were redesigned to allow direct exterior access.

All guest rooms were completely remodeled, including replacement of fixtures and vanities. Through-wall HVAC units were enclosed in new cabinets providing upholstered window seats. Six new guest suites were created, and disabled-accessible rooms were upgraded to meet current standards.

The building exteriors were enhanced with cultured stone and stucco over the existing wall construction.  A new mansard roof with fiber cement shingles was added, with wood brackets providing a rhythmic element. A landscaped courtyard was created, providing first floor rooms with private patios.
