May 10, 2012 – FitzGerald Associates Architects is providing full architectural services for an 80-unit senior living community on Bloomingdale Road in Glendale Heights.

NSP Project Updates: Construction Complete at Two Sites, Construction Begins at a Third

May 10, 2012 – Construction is complete at two Neighborhood Stabilization Program sites where FitzGerald provided architectural services, at 7953 S Vernon and 7014 South Kimbark, both located in Chicago’s Grand Crossing neighborhood. Construction is also beginning on a third NSP site also for Celadon Holdings at 1015 North Pulaski, a renovation of a 30-unit building with ground-floor commercial space in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

Historic FitzGerald: The Silversmith Hotel

May 10, 2012 – In 1995, FitzGerald provided design services on the adaptive reuse of a 1896 Burnham & Root building in Jeweler’s Row into the Silversmith Hotel, a 143-room boutique hotel on Wabash Street in Chicago’s Loop.

April 18, 2012 – FitzGerald Associates Architects has begun working on several new projects, including a 16-unit loft rehab in the West Loop; the reconfiguration and renovation of a luxury boutique hotel entry and lobby in Chicago’s Gold Coast; a turn-key retail tenant build-out at Westfield Chicago Ridge Mall; the complete renovation of commercial kitchen prep, service, and administrative facilities at a Senior Living community in Burr Ridge (pictured right); and a retail tenant build-out of a youth swim club in Woodridge.

He presented projects illustrating the way that design and construction teams capture, transform, and share BIM (Building Information Model) data during the design and production process.

Growing Trend: Light Wood Frame Construction

March 7, 2012 – In recent years, one growing trend is the utilization of light wood framing (LWF) for midrise residential and commercial structures. Permitted under the International Building Codes for years, this construction has only recently become more accepted and popular in Northern Illinois.

March 15th, 2012 is Compliance Deadline for 2010 ADA Standards

March 7, 2012 – As of March 15, 2012, entities covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act must fully comply with the 2010 Standards for Accessible Design. The revised rules, which were formally adopted on March 15, 2011 with a year-long grace period set to expire this month, apply to the activities of more than 80,000 units of state and local government and more than seven million places of public accommodation, including offices, retail stores, restaurants, recreational facilities and entertainment venues.

New Illinois Law Requires Radon Disclosure to Tenants

March 7, 2012 – Beginning January 1, 2012, Property Managers and Owners are required by Illinois state law to inform renters about any radon testing occurrence in their unit and what radon hazards, if any, may exist. Tenants may also request such a test if the unit hasn’t been tested before.

Did You Know: Fado

March 7, 2012 – In 1997, FitzGerald worked with the Irish Pub Company to design Fado, a unique three-story, 12,000 square foot pub and restaurant in Chicago’s River North neighborhood.

February 7, 2012 – FitzGerald Associates Architects has begun working on several new projects, including a 306 unit apartment building in Wheaton, Illinois; the adaptive reuse of a four-story heavy timber loft building in Chicago’s South Loop; the 40,000 square foot indoor athletic training facility in Lake Barrington, Illinois; the expansion of a fitness center in Batavia, Illinois; site planning for a major grocer’s expansion into Ann Arbor, Michigan; and a new 5,700 square foot retail center in Wheaton, Illinois.

Construction Underway at CA23 Phase II, Residents Move In at Parkside of Old Town Building Six

February 7, 2012 – Construction has begun on the second phase of CA23, located on a through-block site at 15-23 North Aberdeen and 16-20 North Carpenter Streets in the West Loop.
The first residents have taken occupancy of their units at 544 West Oak Street, the latest building to be constructed at the Parkside of Old Town mixed-income community in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood.

FitzGerald Associates Hosts Seminar on Lean Construction

February 7, 2012 – This month, FitzGerald Associates, in collaboration with Skender Construction, hosted a seminar on Lean Construction for our staff and guests. Focusing on the Lean Project Development System and related tools, the group explored through case studies local examples of successful implementation of lean construction principles and how their implementation achieved successful outcomes with special emphasis on construction costs and schedule.

Historic FitzGerald: Milwaukee-Diversey-Kimball Historic District

February 7, 2012 – FitzGerald Associates predecessor firm Rissman and Hirschfeld had a significant impact on Chicago’s Milwaukee-Diversey-Kimball Historic District, designing two buildings at the six-corners intersection in the city’s Logan Square Neighborhood and a third on an adjacent lot along Milwaukee Avenue between 1927 and 1928.

2440 North Lakeview Added to National Register of Historic Places

January 3, 2012 – In November, the National Park Service listed 2440 North Lakeview—Designed by Rissman & Hirschfeld in 1927—on the National Register of Historic Places. The news was announced on December 14, 2011 by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.
